In what we really thought would be a short episode (false!) Ben and Josh talk about the blockbuster month of May headed your way.  First up, we head south of the New Hampshire border for Boston Comic Con (April 30 – May 1st).  Then, in the coming weeks we have ‘live’ shows lined up for Free Comic Book Day (May 7) and Granite State Comic Con (May 15).

Next up in the episode, we run down the list of Eisner Award nominations and make our predictions on who will win.  We discuss some recent reads and Josh hurls some vitriol towards Marvel for spoiling their books in the mainstream media months before their release.

And finally, we roll up our sleeves and play What’s in the Box? Listen in wonder as Ben and Josh rifle through a long box full ‘o treasures from a recent garage sale. Ben loses all capacity for vocabulary, Josh puts his Rainman-like recollection of Spider-Man covers on display, and the Hulk makes eggs Benedict.  There’s enough 90’s books and Atlantis Attacks annuals for everyone, so listen in and enjoy!

April Fools! It’s our March edition of the Near Midnight Comic Book Club. This month, we’re joined at Double Midnight Comics by the newly-married Scott Proulx and Pat “The Covenator” Covey.

Pat gets things started by gushing over the first 8 issues of (adjectiveless) X-Men. Scott brings back the Top Cow love with some talk on Echoes and Artifacts. Then Ben sings the praises of B.B. Wolf and the Three LPs.

This month’s book club selection is Morning Glories by Nick Spencer and Joe Eisma from Image Comics. We recap the highlights and lowlights of of the first trade paperback and look ahead to what to expect from the series and from white-hot-writer-of-the-moment, Nick Spencer.
