Rounding out our coverage from the Baltimore Comic-Con, here’s a video montage from the convention floor featuring interviews with creators, Jonathan Hickman (The Nightly News, Fantastic Four, S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Mike Choi (Uncanny X-Men, X-Force, Astonishing Thor).
Well, it may be the unofficial last day of summer but we’re celebrating the occasion with a couple of Near Mint firsts. This is the first installment of coverage from last week’s Baltimore Comic-Con, it’s also our first video NEAR MINTerview. Ben had the opportunity to sit down with Afrodesiac co-creator, Jim Rugg and he dropped some science on us. In this 16-minute interview, Jim schools us on the history of comics and the direct market, blaxploitation, and the creative process that went into his amazingly unique work on books like Afrodesiac, Street Angel and Rambo 3.5 (which you can read here for free).

Assuming you have room in your life to listen to a podcast other than ours, I highly recommend the Smodcast with Filmmaker, Kevin Smith and his hetero-lifemate, Scott Mosier. It’s a great show full of hilarity, hijinx and bathroom humor. Smodcast is an audio show, but here’s a little video taste (featuring everyone’s favorite superhero, Aquaman) to wet your appetite until our next episode…
Our landmark 20th episode, featuring our Best of 2009 Awards will be heading your way shortly!
We couldn’t make the trip to San Diego ourselves this year but fortunately Late Night host, Jimmy Fallon was there to take in the sights and pitch a few people on his new superhero, the Recharger. Pretty funny stuff with some great comics industry cameos.
Meanwhile, we’re still waiting to hear from @DMComicsScott about his San Diego trip. And we’ve got San Diego talk of our own along with plenty of comics discussion, coming later this week in Episode 16 – it’s in the can!
